How they work
Most beach clubs are technically open to the public but require either a minimum spend or a sunbed/table reservation, especially on weekends. Booking ahead is worth it for well-known venues, particularly around sunset, which is consistently the busiest window.
Seminyak vs Canggu
Seminyak's beach clubs tend to be more polished and established; Canggu's scene is generally newer, more laid-back, and popular with the area's digital nomad and surfer crowd. Neither is "better" — they suit slightly different moods.
Beyond the clubs
Bali also has plenty of free, simple public beach access if a beach club's cost and crowd aren't what you're after — Canggu's black-sand beaches in particular are a genuine surf destination in their own right, not just a beach club backdrop.
Pick one or two well-reviewed beach clubs for a sunset session rather than trying to hit several in one trip — the appeal is the relaxed pace, not checking off a list.
